Those people keep a movin' and that's what tortures me.

Meet the beautiful Chelsea Lyons.
Below is the lovely Paige Alcorn.
Chelsea Lyons was the hair stylist here, and I adore what she's done with Paige's hair.
It's so classic!
Basically, Chelsea twisted Paige's hair in a french braid manner by starting with hair on the left, twisting, adding a section, twisting, adding another section, and so on until the twist bends around to the right.
Secure with a ponytail holder.
In this case, Chelsea gave the style a bit of volume by teasing Paige's hair near the top of her head before embarking on the twist ending in a pony tail.
Add a flower, feather, or other hair piece.
Finish by curling the ponytail. Make sure to curl every piece the same way. Chelsea curled Paige's hair away from her face, not toward.

Thanks Paige, for being a gorgeous model for me.

Jenny's got a body thats shaped like an hourglass

My good gal friend, McKenzie (Gal with Curves) had a forties/ fifties birthday to celebrate her Sweet Sixteenth. I came over a bit early to assist her in errands as well as style her hair.
This is what we came up with:

I wasn't sure where I was going with this, but McKenzie told me to do whatever I wanted.

I ended up twisting two sections from the front to cross in the back.
Continuing to twist these sections of hair, I criss crossed them behind her pony tail which I did not use any hair ties for. Bringing the twisted sections back around the front, I crossed them once more in front and once more in back.
Then I secured them with bobby pins, using the pony tail to hide the pins.

With her short, side swept bangs and one loose curl by her face, the look is complete.

She looked stunning and her party was a hit complete with a birthday cake with her baby picture, guests dressed in their best 40's and 50's attire, big band music, and a movie projected onto her garage door.

Tip for the style: I curled and sprayed her hair before styling it. After the curls set, I lightly brushed through them with my fingers and sprayed once again.

Before the festivities began.

Happy 16th, McKenzie!
May this year bring you all your dreams and much more.

Laced Lies

LIE: When styling your hair, it should match your outfit's genre.

LACE: (The beautiful, yet delicate truth to the typical hair myths that girls often buy into) Hair is an accessory just like your clothing. Make it beautiful, make it daring. Make it different. Yes, the style should compliment your outfit, but that shouldn't limit your creativity.

top: Express, many years ago
skirt: the Fashion Shack, a second hand store in South Carolina
boots: Dillards

I love the tight off the shoulder top with the dome of the high waisted skirt. Low cut boots with studs perfected this look. It has a girly-punk vibe. Next step: hair.

With this outfit I wanted my hair to contrast with the sleek edgy look.
Solution: sleek, perfectly groomed hair.

Originally, I pinned my bangs back and sprayed them, but then after they had set, I took the pins out and touched up with some spray.
Treseme Tres Extra Firm Hold is my current favorite. It smells good and it's a reliable product.

Notice, the sides waves back into the style. This adds a bit of a relaxed feel to my otherwise very tight style.

Start out by pulling half your hair into a ponytail, paying particular attention to the way you sweep the sides into a half pony. Then take a piece of hair at the base of your ponytail where it is secured with an elastic, and wrap it around the elastic. Secure with bobby pins underneath your hair. I hid the pins under the portion of half pulled back hair.

Twist the half pony loosely, adding sections of the hair left down until all hair is in the twist. Wrap the twist into a loose bun to the lower right or left near the nape of your neck. Secure with bobby pins. Spray. As the day passes your hair may loosen a bit. As long as it is still in place, let that natural loosening add to your style.

Don't forget to carefully spray back any fly aways for a clean, sleek up do.

Happy Styling!

Little bit of this, little bit of that

Dress: Straight up vintage from my lovely Nana
Converse: your local Journey's

Thank you college, you've left my shoe supply quite scarce for when I go back to the parent's house. I like the Converse with this, but only to an extent.

I left some extra bangs down on this style. If I were to style my hair this way again, I'd probably opt for less bangs down to give the style a lighter feel.

A fun little style without too much hassle.

Pull the side with your bangs back by rope braiding two pieces tightly, then secure with bobby pins.
Pull back a larger section of hair from the other side.
Smooth it back and over the bobby pins that secured the rope braid.
Lift up a section of your hair (in my style I did this part of the back left of my head, since the rope braid's bobby pins are on the left), bring the smoothed section of hair under the lifted up section.
Secure with bobby pins.
Depending on fly aways, and your hair's texture, lightly spray.
Right now I'm loving Treseme Tres Two Spray Extra Firm Hold.

Viola!

Here's a closer look at the side to see how much hair I chose to leave down near my bangs.

With this style, I made sure to have a touch of undefined wave to combat the prim and proper feel, therefore complimenting the dress with a diversity.

The Rope Braid

Shakespeare in the Park: Romeo and Juliet

For a lovely early evening and into night the pulled back, a loose hair style and flowy maxi dress provide the perfect feel.
Nashville, you are the best.

LIE: Twists won't stay in place.
LACE: (The beautiful, yet delicate truth to the typical hair myths that girls often buy into) When styled properly a twist will be secure. Twists are perfectly simple, yet look completely complicated.

In this case, I started the style as a twist on the right side of my head and added sections of hair as I went down.

Leave enough looseness for the style to not look too tight, but start the twist relatively tight until you reach right above the nape of your neck.

Take the twist you already started and add the rest of your hair to it, but instead of twisting the new section in, cross the two sections over each other the full length of your hair.
TIP 1: Crossing the two sections over each other should be as tight as possible because it will unravel some.

Tip 2: If you have layers like I do, then trying this style while your hair is a completely wet or a little greasy helps it hold shape as it dries.

I love the balance of loose and tight this hair style holds. It perfectly mirrors my long, form fitting, yet flowing dress.

"I got so excited when LACE came back in style. It got cheap!"- Anna

Hair, hair, everywhere

Upon reaching college and thinking about jobs: if, when, and where I'd want to get one. I stumbled upon an old idea that I had forgotten. (FYI: psychology tells us [this is a tip from college] that if you want to remember something long term then not only should you repeat it over and over, but you should attach that piece of info to something you already know that is important to you.)

HAIR! That's the idea of a job I had forgotten about. Sorority gals get ready. I am here to do your hair for events. Price: 5- 10 bucks depending on what type of style you want.

Here we have Anna, my suite mate.
Anna out on the town for a Lady Vol Soccer game.

BOYS:
Want a hair cut? 5 bucks. Pictures of my guy friend's hair that I cut are probably to come.

Just cause I said it doesn't mean that I meant it. People say crazy things.

Tomato Salad!

Ingredients:

Peach vinaigrette dressing

About 2 lb. tomatoes

3 ounces crumbled goat cheese

1/2 cup coarsely chopped toasted pecans

Optional freshly ground pepper

Peach Vinaigrette Dressing:
1/3 cup white balsamic vinegar
1 garlic clove minced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons olive oil (I reduced it to 1/2 tablespoon)
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 large fresh peach, peeled and diced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

Whisk together balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, brown sugar, olive oil, and salt.
Then stir in diced peach and chopped basil.

This recipe is just a guideline.
When putting it all together, make it to your own taste.
To begin:
Start with however many tomato slices you plan on eating.

Sprinkle the toasted chopped pecans on next.

Follow the pecans with goat (feta) cheese crumbles.

Add as much of the Peach Vinaigrette as you'd like.
Possibly follow with ground pepper.
And...
Bon Appétit!

Forget about your house of cards

LIE: When going for an elegant look, the hair style must be ornate, like a statement of its own.

LACE:(The beautiful, yet delicate truth to the typical hair myths that girls often buy into) When attempting to achieve a certain look, don't confine your hair to one style or another. Instead incorporate several
different styles to make up a completely new style of your own.

The loose curls dressed up an otherwise typical half up half down do.

Don't let the seemingly simple front fool you. Although this style is pretty basic, the pieces pulled back and twisted lend the back view of this half-do an elegant simplicity.
Make sure to hide the bobby pins by crossing the second section over the first and then pinning that second side underneath the first and out of sight.

Out of sight out of mind...
Your hair style becomes a magic trick!
I finished the look with simple pulled back bangs with a couple loose strands.
Depending on your hair cut, do what fits best with your style.
Happy styling!
