Classification: The Way I Pay

Fantastic Facial Hair!
(For men, of course!)
LIE: Purple Laced Lies is only about women's hair.
LACE: (The beautiful, yet delicate truth to the typical hair myths that girls often buy into) Purple Laced Lies consists of both men and women's hair. Women are just the subject a majority of the time.
This is for my brother-in-law, Walt, who said he would follow my blog, "Except he isn't a girl."

George Michael
Freddie Mercury
The odd combination of scruff and mustache...
Kenny Loggins

The normal socially accepted beard and stache in two forms...
And then the various forms of facial scruffiness!

Just a shout out to my doubtful brother-in-law who thinks he cannot support me due to his gender.

Or just for laughs.

MoonGlows, Wooden Ballerinas, DragShow

LIE: When in windy weather, the hair must be put up.
LACE:(The beautiful, yet delicate truth to the typical hair myths that girls often buy into) Your hair does not have to be boring on windy days! Wind is all the more reason to get creative with your styling so that your hair looks fantastic, but stays out of your face when needed.
Here are my inventive ways to keep hair back in a stylish way.
Headband from So Good Collections
HOW TO: Here, I let the head band do the work.
I scrunched my hair before hand so that it had a bit of a natural wave with a textured look.
After putting on the head band, I pushed it a bit too far back and then pulled it forward so as not to leave my bangs with a slicked back tightness.
I combed my hair that I was going to bobby pin back to make it bumpless, then spray it.
Taking hair in one hand as if it is going into a ponytail, push hair forward.
Bobby pin and spray!
TIP: When pushing hair forward before bobby pinning it, it is typical to get bumps or spots where your hair will separate to the right or left, leaving an unwanted part.
To fix such, simply comb the bump or unwanted part until it looks as desired and spray it in place. Then proceed to push hair forward, bobby pin, and spray!

My mom is used to wearing her hair down. All the time. Except when she gets me to do it, typically on vacation days. This was a new look for her. Many gals feel like they cannot wear their hair more than one way because they cannot fix it or perhaps they just aren't used to a different style. Experiment! Try new things without making them completely new. The way I did this for my mom is by keeping her bangs down which softened the look.
HOW TO: Take hair from one side or the other and twist it toward the center of your head.
Take a section from the opposite side, pull it underneath the twist, wrapping around it, and then twist the whole new twist in the original way, toward the center of your head.
Continue this, adding sections from alternating sides until you've added all your hair.
Then, continue twisting all your hair until it starts to turn.
At this point you can either tuck the hair, like I did here on my mom's hair, or you can continue twisting it until you have made a bun.
TIP: Longer hair will work better being twisted into a bun, especially if you have thick hair like mine. In that case, there is no way your hair will simply tuck under without lots of work!
I tucked my mom's hair on the right side of her twist and bobby pinned it.
Thoroughly spray!
Finish by fixing your bangs how you want them and then spray once more all over!

This is a horrid picture of me, but I adore it of my mother.
It also shows how her bangs look in the front.
Head band from Target dollar section!
Here, my mom asked me to do her hair the same as I had the night before because she liked the look so much.
But, I am sporting a bit of a different way of keeping your hair back.
It is the same general concept as before, but no bobby pins.
My bangs gave my hair the body it has, starting after the head band.
For those with longer bangs or no bangs to give body when pushed back like this, take a thin layer of your hair that will be on top and behind the headband and tease it lightly or depending on how your hair holds, just spray it up a bit.
Push it up (just with your hand flat on your head), and spray again.
TIP: Make sure not to use too much spray or else your hair will have no body because it is too heavy. How much is too much? For thin hair it is so easy to spray too much, be extremely careful! Thicker hair can withstand almost as much spray as your lungs can.

Hat from Miami FL, SouthBeach street fair
One more easy way to keep the untamed hair under locks is a hat! Any style, any wear, any way!
Happy styling!
A Special Thanks to Chris Davenport for the Photography in most of this!

H2O berry tart

In honor of how much I miss Oklahoma, since my first and thus far last trip, I am posting a memory inspired blog.
"It was a one eyed, one horned, flying, purple, people-eater!
One eyed, one horned, flying, purple, people-eater!"
Hannah, this one is for you! : )

An absolutely adorable movie made after the song was written.
The movie starts slow, but is so worth the end!

Purple himself and his magical horn that places music
In honor of Purple, the fuchsia hair spreads!

Florida bound!

Today, I learned a winter secret.
DO NOT TRAVEL WITH YOUR HAIR DOWN!
Today I have had a dramatic battle with static cling and thus far am losing!
It will not leave my straight hair alone!
LIE: Your hair will not stay pretty as you travel.
LACE: Your hair can be brilliant as you travel. My tip is just not to leave it down where the static electricity can annoy you all day.

Try some of these pretty styles that keep your hair out of your way and mostly out of static cling's nasty paws!
The thing I love about this ponytail is that her bangs are up.
In my experience bangs are the best target of static electricity's evil power!
Another bangs up do!
Ballerina Buns are classic.
Just a diagram, but this is such a cool idea!

Hair accessorizing may be the key to spicing up a normal bun on your winter, anit-static, travel days!

A bun is too simple for you and you don't have the perfect headband?
Use your own hair as a head band or braid it like this gal has!

The problem I have with this is that her bangs are screaming to be targeted by the horrid static stigma!
A not so simple bun, try it if you dare. ; )

These are some of the styles I wish I had decided to sport today instead of my choice: straight, down, no product, and a hat. We all have our bad hair days.
Today is tragic!

If that's movin' up, then i'm movin' out!

TANGLED!

This was the inspiration of my braid post!
Such a fun movie! If you haven't seen it yet, you have to!
Her hair is incredible. It's a hair blogger type of movie, especially if you adore music and cartoons. I love the flowers set in her hair. I'm hoping to do something like this sometime. When i do achieve such I will most likely use fake flowers, maybe that will be up sometime!
Someone's attempt to make their hair look like Rapunzel's.
WOW!
I'm impressed by this.
It looks as though she has french braided the two sides of her hair starting at the top and continuing it as a normal braid after about 3 to 5 inches of the french style. The middle section that was left over was split into three sections. Two very small normal braids and one large french braided section. She then braided the left right and middle large french braids together while loosely incorporating the two small braids with the right and left sections.

LIE!!!
Gals with layers cannot braid or french braid their hair.
LACE (The beautiful, yet delicate truth to the typical hair myths that girls often buy into)
Such gals with layers really can braid their hair! Braiding hair while wet or slightly damp works miracles!

Thank you PacSun for my sparkly black head band

How To:
Part hair as desired.
Start with bangs or side of head with more hair due to part side.
French braid diagonally back.
Upon reaching a bit above your ear begin to add sections from the side of your head you did not start braiding from.
Continue to braid diagonally down, not across once adding the other side.
Make sure to braid tightly on the original and looser on the opposite sections.
At the nape of your neck add those sections to the french braid loosely as well, resulting in swoopy hair leading to the hanging braid.
TIPS: If you have layers, braid your hair while it is still wet or slightly damp.
Other cute ideas: Use a ribbon on top of your hair tie at the end of your braid.
Stick jeweled pins in the braid at spots that are too loose or your layers are too short.

How to:
Take a section from one side and sweep it across your head to the other side.
Twist slightly at the end of the small section.
Secure with bobby pin.
Repeat 3 times until four sections swoop.
Have the second overlap the first and so on to hide the bobby pins.
Take the remaining hair and french braid it down to the bottom.
Secure with an elastic.
Preferably lightly spray the top crossing sections.

Let me know your unusual braiding styles and I'll post them!

Chaseless

A bit early, but in preparation for prom...
Last year's hair style for me:

front view...
as well as Skye's traditional ringlets

how to:
Start with a small braid from one side of head going over to other side.
Secure with bobby pins.
Pull top half of hair into a loose low ponytail with small elastics, leaving out a thin section of top hair.
Pull bottom half of hair into a loose low ponytail directly below top ponytail.
Curl both ponytails in small sections resulting in tight ringlets.
Bobby pin each curl or small sections around ponytail in elastics until each is up.
Take the top layer of hair that was left out and bobby pin it loosely around elastics.
Curl remaining pieces.
Spray thoroughly.
(Make sure to hold the spray at least 6 inches away from head to insure the style is not hard or oily looking)

inspiration for the updo...

Other fun prom ideas/ updos!

Just for fun and in honor of some people's New Year's Celebrations.
(Not mine, because I don't drink due to my age and obedience to most laws)
Happy 2011!
On the other hand, however, a cool idea for the hair adventurers out there would be to do these same braids with some modifications to the top center ones and drape them loosely to the back of your head and secure with a barrette or elegant clip of some sort.
